Proxy Anonymity & Usage

Not all proxies provide the same level of privacy. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right node for browsing, scraping, or app-based tasks.

Anonymity levels

• Transparent: Forwards traffic and often forwards the original IP in headers. Used for caching or filtering, not anonymity.
• Anonymous: Hides the real IP but may still identify itself as a proxy to the destination.
• Elite (high anonymity): Hides both the client IP and the fact that a proxy is used.

How to test a proxy

Open a private browser window, enable the proxy in your system or use an extension (SwitchyOmega), then visit an IP lookup site (e.g., ipinfo.io). Compare the reported IP and ASN to your actual IP. If they match your real IP, the proxy is likely transparent.

Practical tips

Use HTTP(S) proxies for web browsing and SOCKS5 for applications requiring TCP/UDP. Test response times and anonymity before using a proxy for sensitive tasks. If a site blocks a proxy, try a different node or protocol, and always avoid sending credentials over an unencrypted connection.
